I am delighted to extend greetings to the members and supporters of JEXPIA on the occasion of the 10th anniversary dinner/dance of the association. It is always a pleasure to be in the company of my fellow Jamaicans wherever they are gathered in events such as this and I sincerely regret that I am not able to be present at this evening’s function, despite my earlier intention to do so.
This year several of our fellow diaspora members travelled to Montego Bay for the 5th staging of the biennial Diaspora Conference. The level of participation and the substance of the Conference was truly encouraging and heartwarming. It spoke to the interest and commitment of members of the Diaspora to continue to actively engage with other stakeholders in taking our country to a new level towards full development. Some of you would have participated in the Conference and am sure will be able to convey even more convincingly than I, the strong message of the Conference that as Diaspora members you have a vital role to play in helping to chart and move the course of our country forward. You, our diaspora are the epitome of what a small country such as ours can do if we work together, hands and heart, with a shared goal and vision in mind, against the odds.
I congratulate the President and other members of the JEXPIA executive as well members, for giving of their time and energy to making a difference through the various outreach activities to which your organization has provided support. Your dedication not just to meeting the needs of members, but to also contribute to the development of Jamaica is very much appreciated. I encourage you to continue to make your mark, even in the smallest way possible, as no small measure of good is wasted.
I take this opportunity to congratulate this year’s honoree Miss Juliet Jemeison, who has been singled out for giving over forty (40) years of service to the Passport and Immigration services sector of the public service.
Please accept my best wishes for a successful and enjoyable evening.
